Elliott Carter: Gra for B-flat Clarinet Alone (1993)
Clarinetist: Xuan Qin
Berkman Recital Hall, The Hartt School, University of Hartford.
As many works of Carter’s late compositions dedicated to either composers or performers, Gra depicted the close friendship between Carter and Lutoslawski. The title Gra means game in Polish. This composition consists of two different characteristics, alternating between playful rhythmic lines and flowing melodic passages, which convey many wonderful memories of Carter’s travels in America and Poland with Lutoslawski.
